Wellness Care

One small thing, everyday, for your best Self.

Magnolia Midwifery is a full scope midwifery practice with a focus extending beyond childbirth. Connecticut CNMs promote wellness, diagnose, and treat a variety of conditions from puberty beyond menopause. Treatments include a blend of complimentary and alternative recommendations; referrals, consultations, and collaboration with other providers; and medications when indicated and desired.

In a health care system that often overtreats and undertreats, it is hard to decide what visits and screenings are important to good health, if at all. Recommendations change over time as new information reveals more helpful practices and warns against harmful ones. Negative interactions with practitioners may dissuade some people, perhaps you, from making regular appointments when you feel well and even when you have concerns.

So, why keep regular midwifery wellness, sexual and reproductive health care appointments?

Understanding. Trust. Early detection.

Midwives honor your leadership and informed choices in your wellness journey! At Magnolia Midwifery, understanding what being well means to you directs our conversations. I provide evidenced-informed, current recommendations which include a range of possibilities. I do not assume you agree to any part of a visit, screen, course of action, or physical exam. We frankly discuss the risks and benefits of options, including doing nothing.
Racial, sexual, and
post-childbirth trauma is pervasive. W
hether a particular trauma history is disclosed or not, all clients receive trauma-aware care.
Midwives know that building a trusting, positive relationship with you and your family is not a perk. It is essential so that you feel comfortable returning for regular well-person visits and screenings which may lead to early detection of specific conditions. For most people, personal wellness practices fluctuate with changes in life circumstances. Regular visits give you an opportunity to review your plan and reset when needed.

Most people use a combination of wellness exams, safe-sex practices, pregnancy planning and prevention, herbs, supplements, chiropractic care, bodywork, homeopathy, exercise, and spiritual practices to maintain good health. Midwives promote non-intervention in typical life transitions except when needed and desired. We embrace alternative and complementary therapies alongside, or instead of, medical-technical approaches, surgery, and medications.

Primary care preventive screenings

The Prevention Task Force is an application designed to help primary care clinicians, such as nurse-midwives, identify preventive services that are appropriate for their clients.

I use the tool to search and browse U.S. Preventive Services Task Force (USPSTF) recommendations for you. You may wish to enter your information and review recommended screenings prior to your visit.
