I welcome the opportunity to witness your journey through the childbearing year and support your preparation for birth and parenting. Birth is a rite of passage, an initiatory experience, wise in its ability to open and surprise you, teach you about yourself, offer hope in what is yet to be, and connect you with Creation - all that is seen and unseen - preparing you for parenting, for life.

Perhaps this is what brings you here! You understand that birth is profound yet regular, challenging and worth the work, a soul-changing rite of passage initiating you to your new role as parent-or parent again. You understand that your pregnancy and birth experience, and body-soul integrity, 100% matters. That the birthing experience and special time that follows is reduced when tethered to machines, systems, institutions, numbers, data, and intellect. You understand that the very essence of birth, of creation, is so much more. You look forward to building a relationship with your midwife, being supported in community, and take responsibility for your health and decisions. And I look forward to walking the journey with you!

Hi! I'm Christy D'Aquila, CPM, CNM. I offer midwifery support to families planning a homebirth throughout Connecticut in the Greater Hartford area including Hartford County, Litchfield County, upper Fairfield County, New Haven, and Middlesex Counties. My passion for midwifery means that you are at the center of all that I do (and don't do)! And that's how birthing care should be. I value your story and the meaning you give to your experiences. While I serve as a resource and guide, you make informed choices that make sense to you in the context of your life and family.

Throughout our time together, you receive practical and relational preparation for birth as an initiation experience and family event. What is relational? It means that birth and parenting are grounded in relationships - to yourself, your family, your understanding of the world, and your relationships with those around you, including your midwife! I invite you to walk through the childbearing year awake to physical, emotional, and spiritual transitions. You are supported to face challenges and embrace growth opportunities as you stay connected to your experience and to all those who walk this journey with you.

Join other parents honoring the humanity and spirituality of birth. Prepare to make informed decisions that resonate with your values, gather information, follow your intuition in a protected space, and face challenges with mindful resilience.

Home Birth

The physical, emotional, and spiritual changes and challenges during the childbearing year are profound for many and offer opportunities for growth. I work with you in partnership to have a safe, satisfying birth. I strive to foster positive integration of these transitions into your self and family identity.

Fortunately, Connecticut families planning homebirth have a variety of midwifery practices to choose from. It is helpful to choose a birth site and midwife that matches your values and beliefs. We start with a phone call followed by a free consultation visit. Learn more about the benefits of homebirth.
